Our products

Yes, all but three! We adhere to a strict and robust allergen safety program in our factory. Our Modena Balsamic Rub, Chaat Masala and Tandoori Masala do contain trace amounts of gluten from wheat or barley. This is processed on some shared equipment, which we sanitize and test for allergens after each run.

We are not certified kosher, but our spices are free of unlisted ingredients and our facility is meat, nut, dairy and egg free.

Yes, we are a peanut free facility! We do not process nuts in our facility, and we only purchase ingredients that have already been tested. We also have an allergen safety protocol that is followed during the production of your spices.

Spices come from living plants and deserve great care. At Spicewalla we order spices from around the world in small quantities to ensure they’re not sitting on shelves going stale. We roast, grind, and pack our spices by hand, to ensure freshness. Here’s how to care for your spices, herbs, and seasonings:

- Store them in a cool, dry place and keep them out of direct sunlight.
- Keep 'em tucked in their tin with that lid on tight so they stay fresh & tasty!
- Toast your whole spices lightly in a pan before using to activate their aroma and flavour.

Just like grains and other pantry staples, your spices won't technically "go bad", however they will lose their vibrancy and potency. We recommend using your Spicewalla products within 6 months to guarantee Superior Flavour. For reference, the bottom of your tin shows a "best by" date which is 3 years after the packing date.

Either option! Its your preference, the bag is only in the tin to stop spices like turmeric from escaping through the edges of the tin lid while in transit.

Small tins: 1.75” length x 1.75” width x 2.5” height and have a 3oz liquid volume.
Big tins: 2.25” length x 2.25” width, 3.125” height and have a 7oz liquid volume.

Some products have already been made with the shaker tops included, and others are still being updated! While we’re transitioning you may receive some products with shaker tops and some without. Thanks for bearing with us, ya sweet, spicy people!

While all of our “shakeable” seasoning & spices will have the new shaker lids, there are some products that will not work with the new shaker tops. Don’t worry though, each product page will show how your product will ship to you!

  • For your big tins, Yes! We sell a 5 pack of shaker lids. Just make sure they fit snugly in your tin and test the shake before using; If the fit isn’t perfect, Rotate 90º and try again.
  • For your small tins, our first round didn’t quite meet our stringent quality standards. They’re not available yet, but we definitely hear that you want them ASAP! The spice heads have spoken.

We do!

It's at the Grove Arcade, Asheville, North Carolina.

We're also stocked in hundreds of retailers across the country. Visit this page for a full list.

Not Currently. Due to COVID-19 we're taking extra precautions with the health and safety of our staff, therefore the factory is not currently open to customers and tours.

Glad y’all asked! It's an aggressively stringent policy put in place to warn about any levels of a list of over 900 components in products (even naturally occurring ones). It’s overwhelmingly stricter than Federal or international standards. In California, this warning is sometimes even required to be posted at any public place that cannot prove that there are not trace amounts of any toxins on the list in the air or present on the property. Helpful stuff, but some say these warnings can be unreasonably strict when it comes to specific products and foods.

Because herbs and spices are natural products grown in soil from all over the world, and most global soils do contain small amounts of lead or arsenic. Therefore, a trace amount may be present in the products. Most research shows you’d need to consume a sizable amount of the spice itself to experience any harmful effects.

We only ever source from trusted suppliers who offer the highest quality spices and follow all FDA guidelines. We do test spices that have a higher susceptibility for heavy metals like Turmeric, and our full spice catalog is tested for heavy metals, bacteria, pathogens, and contaminants before they ever reach our factory.
